Current Work

Hi, i have decided to blog a few projects whilst my website/hosting space is causing myself a few difficulties. Nightmare. However i hope you enjoy the current work without its layout confusing you too much.

I have just graduated with a BA(hons) Graphic Arts (Illustration) at Liverpool School of Art and Design. My work relies on strong colour, details and pattern, painted using watercolours, the abstract marks i often create are generated from life, objects and details and reflect a ideas and meaning. It is often placed onto hand made paper engineered packages.

Circles- Front cover designs for portfolio

The Unthanks

Proposed designs which were a response to The Unthanks music and background. The Unthanks, An English folk group from Northumberland, a county in the North East of England that shares a North Sea coastline of outstanding natural beauty.
The coastal and land regions are full of remarkable plants, stones and shells decorated across the landscape, creating a unique place that is connected to The Unthanks. The illustrations used represent significant individual shells that have been taken from an extensive collection, and can be seen upon the Northumberland beaches, rivers and lakes. The specific Index number has been taken from the collection observed and is a classification that reflects the state of conchological knowledge.

Swan Mussel Anodonta cygnea, a large species of freshwater mussel, this species is found in rivers and lakes.

Creative Council

I was part of a collaboration with other illustrators from University. I produced a final image to to be entered into a catalogue designed by Uniform, Uniform are a design team in the Northwest and they used Liverpool and the Creative Council to create a piece of print work which reflects the businesses and communities in the area. I responded to the category ‘quality and design excellence’, looking at the “Three Graces” on the Liverpool Docks; The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building, and the Port of Liverpool Building. The buildings stand as a testament to the great wealth in the city during the late 19th and 20th century. All built in a variety of architectural styles they are recognised as being a symbol of maritime Liverpool.
I concentrated mostly on the Port of Liverpool, taking my own collection of photographs of the building and its inner interior, an Edwardian Baroque style building built in 1903-1907. It is known for its ornamental design and details both on the inside and outside, in particular the maritime references and decorative details and furnishings.

Rune Grammofon

Designs for a Norwegian music samplar. Rune Grammofon is a record label dedicated to releasing work by the most adventurous and creative Norwegian artists and composers. Without letting the music be limited to one genre I wanted to create a piece of work that too is a response to all the different records, not one particular style.I have created a paper based, light weight package that presents high key colours that have been randomly dropped or placed.

Raymond Carver- Book Covers

A response to Raymond Carvers, Cover Art, Vintage Books.

Fresh Water Food Chain

Proposal images for a chapter heading. I was investigating the presentation of open work , using the relationship of a habitat to create my idea, using the food chain between the animals within a fresh water lake. The order in which i have placed these animals; the Fresh Water Shrimp, Sardine, Lake Trout, Herring Gull and the Eagle.
